An Evening in Mechelen: Our Belgium Community
Last week, August gathered in Mechelen for an evening hosted with longstanding Homeowners Hendrik and Hilde at De Borght, their beautifully restored concept store in the heart of the city. Set within a former 19th-century Poor Clares chapel and adjoining historic townhouse on Goswin de Stassartstraat, the space today brings together flowers, antiques and contemporary interiors, all curated through Hilde’s distinctly layered and timeless eye, qualities that felt naturally aligned with the atmosphere of August homes themselves. The evening brought together members of the August community from across Belgium, alongside our founder Mélie and the wider August team, for a relaxed gathering of conversation, canapés and bubbles. It also marked the first opportunity to share our new lookbook with Belgian Homeowners, showcasing defining homes and moments across the Collections.
A Community Built Over Time
Hendrik and Hilde have been part of the August community for nearly five years, beginning their journey within the Signature Collection before later joining both a Premium and Pied à Terre Collection. Over the years, they have become a familiar part of the community, often travelling with their dog, who has become something of a frequent visitor to their August homes too.
Hosting the evening within De Borght, Hilde and Hendrik’s concept store, felt particularly fitting. Much like the August homes, the space balances heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary living with an ease that feels deeply personal, layered over time rather than designed all at once. The atmosphere throughout the evening felt relaxed and familiar, a reflection of a community that continues to grow not simply through places, but through the people within it.
During the evening, Hendrik reflected on their journey with August over the past five years, speaking about how the experience has grown far beyond the homes themselves, into the wider community and connections formed along the way.
Mélie also spoke during the evening, thanking Homeowners for their continued trust in August and acknowledging how special it is to see such a strong and engaged community continue to grow across Collections, countries and generations.
Sharing the Collections
Alongside the evening itself, guests were invited to explore our latest lookbook for the first time, offering a closer look into the design direction, renovations and defining moments shaping the Collections today.
Set against the backdrop of candlelight, champagne and the atmosphere of De Borght, the evening felt less like a formal event and more like what August has always hoped to create: a gathering of like-minded people brought together through a shared way of living.

Moments like these are a reminder that August has always been about more than the homes themselves. They are about the relationships, stories and sense of community that continue to grow around them.
