How August Works in Practice: Access, Your Home, and the Homeowner Experience Team

August’s Private Collection membership means holding a share in a Collection of 4–5 exceptional homes in Europe’s most sought-after destinations, while the day-to-day running of each of them is handled on your behalf. Access across the year follows your lifestyle and is organised through Valeria, August's in-house booking system, and a dedicated homeowner experience team manages everything from maintenance to arrival details. Here's what that looks like once your membership begins: how a home is looked after and how access works across the year.

Most people looking to buy a second home outright often worry about similar things and it’s rarely the numbers – it’s the practicalities. Who looks after the garden when no one's there for a couple of months in a row? What happens if something needs fixing off season? Sole ownership means finding the answers to those questions yourself, usually at the least convenient moment. Private Collection membership changes the picture entirely. It was created so the answers are already in place before you arrive: the purchase, the renovation, the maintenance.
What does August take care of once you are a member?
Every August membership begins the same way: with expressing your interest. On a discovery call with the August team, you will be advised further on which Collection best suits your lifestyle and matches your values. This is the foundation of the Private Collection membership and the community of like-minded homeowners that comes with it.
Once a Collection is fully reserved, August establishes a dedicated real estate company solely for that Collection’s homes, which takes care of all administrative and purchase processes. Private Collection membership is a title-holding ownership – a real share in a Collection of exquisite homes – rather than simply the right to use them as with a timeshare model.
The story of every home before entering a Collection usually starts as an off-market find – a gem with distinct local character. Studio RL, August's in-house design studio, leads the renovation and interior work, restoring original features where they matter and choosing every piece with the home's architecture and setting in mind.
Maintenance of the homes is covered by two annual charges – clearly stated and explained upfront. The Annual Maintenance Charge covers the day-to-day running of the home – housekeeping, garden and pool care, insurance, utilities, and the small touches that make each arrival feel effortless. The Sinking Fund covers the larger, less frequent costs – replacements, exterior repainting, the kind of repairs that every home eventually needs. Members don’t manage contractors, chase invoices or plan seasonal maintenance; that responsibility sits with August. The only thing left for the homeowners is to plan the holiday.

How does access to your homes work?
Rather than a first-come, first-served model, access across the year is allocated in three release windows, so members can plan ahead rather than compete for the same dates all at once – the first release lets you prioritise the weeks you want most, with two further releases following later in the year. Time is weighted by demand: a week in August on the Riviera or over Christmas in the Cotswolds draws more from a member's annual allocation than a quieter week in spring or autumn, and bookings can be made up to a year in advance.
Around 90% of the calendar fills this way, with the remaining 10% held back for last-minute stays – bookable free, within 30 days of arrival, for anyone who wants a few extra days. A waiting list keeps things flexible if a home becomes free at short notice, and any dates left unclaimed close to a stay are released at no extra cost – useful for a spontaneous long weekend. Everything is managed through Valeria, August's in-house booking system, which also shows real-time availability and connects members with the other homeowners in the Collection.
What does the homeowner experience team manage on your behalf?
Ongoing upkeep and day-to-day support during a stay is handled by the homeowner experience team, the group most members get to know best. They coordinate arrival details, liaise with local housekeeping and maintenance staff, and act as a single point of contact for anything that needs sorting while you're there – a delayed delivery, a question about the area, a late check-in. Between stays, they handle the quieter supporting work: seasonal changeovers, checking in with Studio RL on any works in progress, and making sure each home is ready before the next member arrives.
