In Good Company: an evening at The Maine

This October, owners and future owners from across the August collections gathered in Mayfair for an evening of conversation. It was a chance to catch up with familiar faces, make new connections and share stories of time spent in August homes. Later in the evening, journalist Jessica Salter joined Mélie, our CEO, Kirsten, our CCO, and Francesca, our Head of Design, for a live conversation about design and what makes a place feel like home. It was a fitting theme. Every August collection begins with its homes, selected one by one, but the people give it its character. Bringing those people together is something we approach with the same care as choosing the homes themselves. In the film below, a few of the owners who joined us reflect on their experience with August.
An evening at The Maine
The Maine occupies one of the last Georgian townhouses on Hanover Square, and was chosen to host our celebration of August. Owners began arriving from 6.30pm to a glass of bubbles, with canapés circulating. Some were meeting fellow owners from their own collection for the first time. Others picked up conversations that had run on for years. As owners compared notes and recommendations, future owners heard first-hand what a year across a collection looks like.
Before the conversation began, Mélie welcomed everyone.
“It’s a very special community. Many of the owners here tonight have been with us since the start, and seeing their excitement is always a joy”
By then, the room felt less like an event and more like a gathering of friends.

In good company
“I’ve heard from many owners this evening that joining August has been the best decision they’ve made as a family. We feel very lucky to have a job where we create new memories for our owners.” Mélie, co-founder and CEO.

Each collection shaped by its people
When we bring a collection together, we think about its people as carefully as its homes. Curating a collection means looking at the group as it forms, not only at each owner on their own.
A collection works best when its owners want different things from it. Because preferences spread naturally through the year, owners more often find time on the dates they had in mind when they book through Valeria. It makes for a better community too: people at different stages of life, from different corners of the world, who might never otherwise have met.

A conversation about belonging
Led by Kirsten, our Chief Commercial Officer, the discussion explored the thinking, creativity and craftsmanship behind August’s design philosophy, highlighting two milestones from the year: the launch of our first Grand Pied-à-Terre and Prime homes.
Mélie and Francesca shared the vision behind these distinct Collections, from the city residences in Cannes, Rome and Paris to the inaugural Prime villa in Mougins. They also discussed August’s creative collaboration with Coco Capitán for the Arcadia Collection. Two of Coco's artworks, soon to be placed in Barcelona and Rome, were on display during the evening.
At the heart of the conversation was the belief that great design goes beyond aesthetics. Each August home is shaped by the character of its destination, drawing on its architecture, landscape, history and local culture to create spaces that feel distinctive while remaining deeply connected to their surroundings.
Jessica Salter, a lifestyle, interiors and travel journalist and editor who writes titles such as Financial Times, The Times, The Telegraph and British Vogue, joined the conversation. She shared her insights into the design influences for 2027, including the art of layering interiors with locally sourced antiques. Together, the panel explored a growing desire for spaces that feel warmer, more personal and rich in character, moving away from trend-led interiors towards homes that feel authentic, considered and enduring.
The discussion reflected August’s belief that the most memorable homes are not simply beautifully designed, but thoughtfully shaped by their surroundings and the way of life they inspire.

Until the next gathering
Evenings like this one show a collection for what it really is: a group of people who love the same places, and who each find their own time in them. Thank you to everyone who joined us at The Maine, and to Mélie, Francesca, Kirsten and Jessica for such a thoughtful conversation. If you’d like to know more about the collections and the people who shape them, we’d love to tell you more.
