What is a Private Collection Membership? The European Guide
%20(2).avif)
This guide sets out exactly what a Private Collection membership is, how it differs from the hotel-branded original, what the membership actually includes month to month, and what it costs, so you can decide whether it's the right type of ownership for you.

Where are August’s destinations?
August’s Private Collection membership isn't tied to one country, let alone one house. August’s curated choice of Europe’s most beloved cities and destinations cover both worlds – five countryside and coastal regions: Tuscany, the French Alps, the South of France, Mallorca and the Cotswolds; and five cities: Paris, London, Cannes, Barcelona and Rome.
Each earns its place for the same reasons – rich in culture and history, immersive in local authentic living, but in its own unique form – the light and openness of a Tuscan farmhouse, an Alpine chalet a short drive from the lifts, a Parisian pied-a-terre a walk from the Seine.
A home only joins a Collection if it meets the same exceptional criteria wherever it sits: real local charm, easy reach of an international airport, genuine outdoor space, and the kind of architectural bones worth restoring rather than replacing. Which Collection suits you best comes down to lifestyle, travel preferences and family size – August offers five in total, from the Pied A Terre Collection through to Prime, each shaped for a different way of living.

How does a Private Collection membership work?
Every home starts with a careful search, often off-market, not as a listing chosen just to fit a criteria. Each August Collection is built around exceptional homes selected for their architecture, location and lasting character, then renovated and designed in-house by Studio RL.
Membership begins with expressing your interest. Before anyone joins a Collection, the August Team invites you to a profile curation meeting, where we understand your preferences and travel lifestyle before finding the Collection that best fits. This ensures the community is shaped with like-minded owners with shared values, applying the same care to choosing the homes themselves, so that every joining family can holiday during the weeks that matter most.
Once a Collection is fully reserved, August establishes a dedicated real estate company created solely for that Collection's homes. August holds no equity in it, homeowners own them in full, with equal shares and equal rights across the group. Most Collections are shared among up to 21 homeowner families across four or five homes. Only the Prime Collection, August's largest and most luxurious offering, is owned by sixteen families.
Once you’re a part of the community, you can start booking the weeks that suit your lifestyle, not the other way around. Quieter seasons and shorter, last-minute stays draw less from your points allocation than the height of summer on the Riviera or Christmas in the Cotswolds. Private Collection membership means you're not locked into the same fixed slot every year.
Booking a stay is straightforward, through Valeria, our in-house booking system and owner platform, where you can also connect with the community. Between your stays a dedicated homeowner experience team takes over and looks after everything, housekeeping, maintenance, and every detail that makes arriving feel effortless and your holiday as hassle-free as it could be.

What is a Private Collection Membership? The European Guide
August's Private Collection membership is a reimagining of the Private Residence Club - the established model for shared luxury home ownership, paired with genuine five-star service. August takes that same foundation and rebuilds it for people who want more than one place to belong to. A Private Collection membership isn't a stake in a single villa or apartment. It's real, title-holding ownership across a curated Collection of four or five homes, each in a different corner of Europe, each managed to the same impeccable standard.

A Private Collection membership is priced the way real ownership should be: apart from the upfront share price, there is a predictable set of ongoing costs that keep every home in the Collection to an exceptional standard and running exactly as it should. There's nothing folded into a single vague "fee" and nothing that arrives as a surprise later – each cost has a name, a purpose, and a plain explanation.

A share itself varies by Collection – recent prices have ranged from around €405,000 to €1.80 million, depending on the homes and destinations involved.
Alongside that, two ongoing costs keep everything running. The Annual Maintenance Charge covers the day-to-day expenses: housekeeping, gardens, utilities, insurance and local taxes across every home in the Collection.
The Sinking Fund is built up gradually for the larger, scheduled work – roof renovation or an exterior repaint – so it's ready years before it's ever needed, rather than landing as an unexpected bill.
What is a Private Collection membership?
August’s Private Collection membership is real, title-holding ownership of a share in a curated group of homes across Europe – not a right to use one, a share you actually own.
What the market calls co-ownership, August has reimagined as Private Collection membership – a community structured around exceptional homes and authentic European living. August’s vision is closer in spirit to the Private Residence Clubs run by hotel groups like Four Seasons and Aman resorts than to a typical shared-ownership model, and carries none of the rigidity of a timeshare.

Unlike the global hotel branded clubs that tie you to one location and a fixed timeframe, August’s Private Collection membership extends the idea across several homes in Europe’s most loved destinations, with one homeowner experience and management team throughout all of them – elevating the traditional holiday into a seamless experience of community and belonging.

Who is a Private Collection membership meant for?
The membership suits people who envision their holiday experience beyond a single second home - they think in seasons, destinations and authentic living rather than one fixed address and a timeframe.
It also suits homeowners who've owned through the sole-ownership model before, and don’t want to manage another gardener, boiler or insurance renewal again. Picture a spring in Tuscany, a summer on the Riviera, a family Christmas in the Cotswolds – all held under the same membership, each home cared for as if it were your only one. So each time it feels like arriving home.
It may not be the right fit for anyone solely seeking a financial return. August’ Private Collection membership is a lifestyle investment, not just a financial investment vehicle.
The Private Collection membership is built around belonging as much as the Collection itself: an exclusive Collection of holiday houses, where the homes, the lifestyle and the community around them matter equally.
