Meet the Maker: Adrián

Design, at its best, is quiet, intentional, and enduring. It’s this philosophy that drew us to Adrián, a local craftsman whose work now sits at the centre of our Premium Mallorca homes. With more than 20 years of experience in woodwork and restoration, Adrián has developed a rare sensitivity to both material and form. We sat down with him in his workshop to explore the nuances of his craft, from the distinct personalities of different woods to the quiet impact of well-made furniture. At August, we believe that authenticity is felt in the details: the story behind every object, and the local makers who bring spaces to life. Adrián’s pieces reflect these values, anchoring our homes with a quiet richness. As we open more homes across Mallorca, collaborations like this remain central to how we design; with care, character, and craft.

In the Hands of Adrián
In the quiet village of Consell, inside a sunlit studio marked by sawdust and intention, Adrián works with quiet precision. As opposed to showroom gloss, here there is just the steady presence of tools, textures, and time. His pieces don’t demand attention, they invite it, unfolding their character slowly, with time. What emerges from his hands feels less like furniture and more like something remembered, grounded in place, and similar to the August philosophy, shaped by the land, and alive to the stories it still carries.
“I was living in a lot of different cities before,” he says, “but Mallorca… it’s the best place in Spain.” It’s not just the beaches or the 300 days of sun. It’s the richness of cultures, the variety of thinking, the way art feels present in the streets. “When I walk through the centre of Palma, I get a lot of inspiration. You can feel the energy. The art. The life.”
Adrián is the founder of Studio de Rogatis, a workshop devoted to rustic, furniture made from antique wood, old chestnut, walnut, pine, salvaged from the north of Spain. He speaks about materials with reverence, describing their age not as a limitation, but as a kind of wisdom.
“Eighty percent of the wood we use is antique,” he says. “This wood has soul, has character. You can’t make the same furniture with new wood, it has no patina, no story.”
The Art of Imperfection
At the core of his work is a deeply held belief in wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic rooted in imperfection, asymmetry, and the quiet dignity of things shaped by time.
“The most important thing is to keep the character of the wood,” he says. “Even when we adjust to the client, I try to keep my style. When I can, I always use beauty in the imperfection.”
That philosophy is tangible in the surfaces of Adrián’s tables, the soft dips where a lock once lived, the way a knot of resin catches light differently. Every table is a meditation in form and feeling, designed to be touched, used, lived with. Some take two weeks to complete; others, including the studio’s signature 4 to 5 metre dining tables, can take more than a month, with two or three carpenters shaping, joining, and finishing by hand.
“Every piece is different. Every process is different,” he says. “Some tables need patience. They need time.”
With such deep reverence for Mallorca and a shared commitment to craft and detail, the collaboration with August felt inevitable.

August and Adrián
The partnership with August began the way many meaningful things do, without ceremony. Karolina, August’s Head of Design, had been exploring the village of Consell looking for the perfect pieces to add to her latest August project when she stepped into Adrián’s studio. She wasn’t looking for furniture, exactly. She was looking for something that belonged, something that could live, without pretense, in one of August’s most storied homes.
This wasn’t a simple brief. The house in question, part of our Fornalutx Premium Collection, is a historic stone property rooted in the very heart of the town square of this medieval village, its walls tracing back to the 12th century. A place where wooden beams, hand-glazed Mallorcan tiles, and sun-bleached stone have been sat for centuries. Preserving this home’s soul meant more than honouring its structure; it meant choosing every addition with restraint, respect, and care.
“She asked about something special,” Adrián remembers, “a custom table that could keep the character of this beautiful house in Fornalutx.”
The answer, it turned out, had been waiting in his workshop, a 200-year-old pine door, weathered by time and rich with texture. With minimal intervention, Adrián gave it new life as a dining table. Long and low, quietly powerful, it now sits at the centre of the home, tying together the rustic beams above and the ancient stone below.
“It was one of the best pieces we’ve made for August so far,” Adrián says. “It had everything, age, texture, history. It felt right for the house.”
The result is not just a piece of furniture, but a point of stillness, a table that doesn’t try to compete with its surroundings, but completes them. A place where you might share a bottle of wine as the bells of the church next door mark the hour, where the old and the present breathe the same air.

Rooted in Place
Adrián’s decision to make Mallorca home wasn’t incidental, it was instinctual. The island’s richness, its collisions of culture and pace and philosophy, are etched into every part of his practice.
He says simply, “We have people from all over: different countries, different styles, food, ways of thinking. That’s what makes the island so rich.”
It’s this melting pot, part Mediterranean light, part layered history, that quietly shapes his wabi-sabi work. Like August, Adrián draws deeply from his surroundings, letting place inform material, and material guide form.
That same instinct led to a second collaboration, this time in our Demi-Quartier Premium Collection home. Dating back over 500 years, the property once housed the renowned Can Campagn nightclub, a spirited sanctuary during the Spanish Civil War and Franco’s dictatorship. Amid a climate of censorship and control, it offered rare moments of relief and resistance, a place of gathering whose legacy carried on and still remembered by long-standing locals today. With a proud position in the heart of Pollença, the house called for a table that could honour its layered past. One that belonged not just physically, but emotionally.
What followed made quiet, perfect sense. Adrián’s sensitivity to place, to memory, to the silent language of materials, meant the piece that emerged was not just functional, but reverent.
His tables are not fast. They are slow, storied, and solid, just like the homes they live in. They hold something of the land, and of the hands that shape them, quietly enduring, just like the homes they now belong to.
