The Estate Wine of August: A Limited Expression of Place

August isn’t just about staying in a landscape; it’s about cultivating and savouring its fruits. With our first prime Italian estate, we inherit a legacy of winemakers whose roots stretch back to the 1800s, along with a highly limited number of 2018 vintage wines, grown from the undulating hills and sun-drenched vineyards of Podere Sant’Alberto. Every bottle carries the legacy of centuries-old care, a reverence for the earth, and the slow, deliberate pace of Tuscan craftsmanship.
Podere Sant’Alberto – A Testament to Small-Scale Excellence
Nestled north of Siena, between the medieval towns of San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, and Castellina in Chianti, Podere Sant’Alberto stands as a tribute to careful, small-scale cultivation.
Built in the 1800s, the farmhouse, now home to our Prime Tuscan estate, has long been the agricultural heart of the property, a place where soil, sun, and hands meet in perfect harmony. Spanning twelve hectares, with two and a half hectares under the vine, while olive groves, natural woodland, and wildflower meadows sustain ecological balance and biodiversity. With fewer than 10,000 bottles crafted each year, the estate remained devoted to true small‑scale winemaking, where every bottle reflects attentive, hands‑on care and a deep respect for the land.
Set on gentle hillside slopes, the land’s natural mix of stone and earth gives the wines their quiet elegance and true sense of place. Here, the L’Unico grapes, the estate’s limited Sangiovese, flourish. Elegant, mineral-driven, and deeply expressive, each bottle is a reflection of restraint, reverence, and terroir.
For August, the philosophy mirrors our approach to our homes: honoring the existing canvas, drawing inspiration from the past, and celebrating the history embedded in every stone, every vine, and every olive tree. From converting our first Tuscan farmhouse to harvesting our inaugural olives last year for award-winning olive oil, we embrace small‑batch craft as a natural extension of living in, and with, the landscape.

The Estate Wine – L’Unico
A pure Sangiovese sourced from the upper vineyard, L’Unico is elegant, mineral-driven, and deeply expressive. Every bottle is a story of patience, place, and the art of small-scale cultivation, encapsulating the essence of Podere Sant’Alberto’s hills in liquid form.

Understanding L’Unico – Our Limited Tuscan Vintage
L’Unico is crafted from Sangiovese grapes, the region’s signature variety, carefully nurtured to produce wines of refined elegance and complexity. Often used in classic Tuscan blends such as Merlot and Renolot de Montechello, our single-vineyard wine captures the quiet character of its hillside setting, shaped by the land that nurtures it. All grapes are grown on the same estate that hosts our prime Italian home, ensuring a continuity of place and authenticity from land to bottle.
As autumn settles over Tuscany and November paints the hills in deeper golds, this is also the season when neighbouring vineyards come alive with their own expressions of Sangiovese. For those who wish to explore beyond Podere Sant’Alberto, a handful of small estates share a similar devotion to craft and heritage. If November finds you exploring beyond Podere Sant’Alberto, Fubbiano Farm offers rustic, characterful wines shaped by long-standing family tradition; Fattoria al Dotto reveals a gentler, more contemplative expression of the region; while Antinori nel Chianti, a storied winemaking family, carries centuries of Tuscan heritage into each bottle. Together, they stand not as comparisons, but as complementary neighbours in the same tradition of place, patience, and craft. Together, they form a constellation of vineyards that echo the same values of place, patience, and reverence for the land.
